Blog #13: Alcohol and Drugs
In my opinion, it is a sign of weakness to fall into addiction and a strength to admit that there is a problem. Unfortunately many people fall victim to drugs and alcohol in order to deal with everyday life. They are not strong enough to find another way of dealing with problems. Alcohol and drugs can numb the pain caused from family, friends and life's problems. Yet, addiction brings about an entirely new set of problems. Finances and relationships suffer from addiction. Strength is exibited when a person wants to lead a sober life and finds a constructive way to deal with their issues.

Hi Samisha,
ReplyDeleteI agree using drugs are a sign of weakness, however I believe everyone has a weakness. It may not be drugs or alcoholic, however food, sex and even porn addictions are just as bad. Overcoming any addiction is hard, takes time and lots of support to accomplish.
Samisha,
ReplyDeleteIn addition to your post, I feel that most addicts find themselves vulnerable to isolation when it comes to a severe addiction. As a result, they have no one to encourage them to seek help and get treatment. As mentioned it is a sign of strength for a drug user to say “I need help.” However, it is sad to see that society rejects those who have gotten help, but have a past history of drug offenses. I think we all as a society need to gain a better perspective of drug addiction and help those in need, but most importantly help those who have received treatment and want to better their lives.

I do not think that addiction is always a sign of weakness. I do not know if you have ever heard of anyone having an addictive personality; not that they're so beaming that everyone wants to be around them but they are easily addicted to various things in life be it alcohol, drugs, food, sex, or video games. I believe addiction can be either the result of nature or nurture...or both. I believe genetics and our surroundings (upbringing, culture) can determine the susceptibility of one to become an addict.
ReplyDeleteDear Samisha,
ReplyDeleteI agree that people start taking drugs and alcohol to cope with stress. However, drugs and alcohol could be an addiction in a long run and could be fatal. It's really easy to be an addicted with the drugs and really difficult to quit.Drug addiction is a weankess, no doubt, because it controls your ability to make decisions. However, we can help those drug addicts to overcome their weakness and get them out of that addiction.

ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your post and the responses that have already been given. Addiction can weaken a person, quickly or over time. Seeking the help and trying to better their life shows strength and courage. I believe society is more excepting of people with addictions. This is a positive and negative thing. We become enablers and tend to turn our eyes away when we know someone has an addiction problem. I believe too that we are more supportive when someone speaks out when they need help.
