Bog #7

I do not believe that STDs should be equated with immorality, promiscous behavior, or low social status. In my opinion, people who agree with that are ignorant. I know many kids who attended the best private schools and family forced them to church every Sunday who have contracted at least one STD during their lifetime. It is possible to be the most educated and yet make bad decisions. Contracting an STD is a direct result of a bad decision. The bad decision was not using a condom or have sex at all. When I was growing up, the local preachers' children had the worst attitudes and were more sexually active than most people. One would say that they should be most well- behaved and of higher morals than other kids. Yet, they were more at risk of contracting an STD due to multiple sexual partners. Thsi suggests to me that immorality, promiscuity, and social class have nothing to do with the chances of contracting STDs.

  1. Samisha, we all grew up the Christian families’ kids or the preachers kids that did no wrong. But more than just are these people ignorant, but they are in just plain old denial. Of course we all want to think our children are perfect, but the reality of it is, they are not as we are not. We are all human and make bad choices at one point of our lives or another. The best we can hope for is a little reality check and lots of education. I love reading your posts!

  2. Samisha,

You are absolutely correct when you say that people are ignorant who think that STDs are only prevalent in communities were the social class is less than standard. There is a long list of celebrities, politicians, business moguls, etc who have contracted this disease regardless if they practiced same sex relationships, drug use, or just plain promiscuity. I think the focus needs to be on more overall preventative measures instead of trying to single out the less than fortunate.

  3. Dear Samisha,
You are absolutely right that social class has nothing to do with the transmission of this disease. However, people's behaviors are definitely going to help to flow this disease from one person to another.I don't think anybody in this world like to suffer from these kind of disease but the thing is that they practice unsafe sex methods due to a lack of knowledge and a proper education. So, i think before we blame specific people about the disease and tag their behaviors as " Immoral acts" and " Promiscous behaviors", we should focus on how we can eradicate these people's unsafe sex practices.
